What makes a great year. Well in my Family it is one when we are together all year...or at least for most of it (OK, reality says at least for part of it!). I say that because Dave (my husband and best friend) is a helicopter pilot for the U.S. Army, he flies a Blackhawk helicopter. Last year, 2009 he was deployed to Afghanistan for 13 months, arriving back in country on December 7, 2009. It helped 2010 start off with a bang. We went on a wonderful week long Family vacation, in January to Steamboat Springs Colorado to go skiing. Then in February, Dave left us again for further training, to Wisconsin for 6 weeks. When he returned it was spring break and we took a quick family trip to FL to see the Family. He then went away again in May, and June for a 2 week site survey to Afghanistan with his new command. And to another week to Huntsville, and another week to Rucker. We then escaped in July for 2 more weeks to Florida for some much needed rest and relaxation. Then back to the grind again. Dave once again went away in Aug for another week. September for another week. He actually got to stay home in October, but was in the midst of an Army training here at Fort Campbell, that had him spending many long nights and weekend’s studying hard for the class. November found us with another challenge, and that was with me having to work long weekend’s and late nights to receive home one of our deployed companies. We once again dug down deep and found a great weekend away as a Family and we once again went to Steamboat Springs, CO for 4 more days of skiing. December brought another round of away time as Dave once again had to go away for about 10 days for further training. He arrived back in town just in time for Christmas...on Dec 20th. As you can see the year has flown by! I am not sure why, but during the years he is deployed they just seem to creep by, during the years he is home they seem to fly by. We do our best to make as much FAMILY time, quality time as we can...but sometimes it is tough. Sitting here tonight all I can think about is that 2010 is over and 2011 is about to begin tomorrow...for many people (as I read on their Facebook status’s) that brings the hope for a new tomorrow. For my family it brings another deployment. Dave will depart again for 13 more months away, leaving on or about January 25, 2011. I will spend the rest of the year wishing the year away. Waiting once again for the next year that my Family can be all together once again!!!
