Follow your heart!

beach painting, ocean, heart
Painting by ME!
Have you ever wondered what you truly were meant to be?  Sometimes it means just taking a plunge and following your heart.  I have wanted for some time to re-brand myself and find the perfect nitch for me.  Well my heart has been telling me that I needed to learn more and get smarter to be all that I can be (to coin an Army term).  Soooo...I have joined Marie Forleo's B-School.  What is that you ask?  Well it is a once a year, 8 week training program to build a better online business.  A dear friend and Instagram expert Sue B Zimmerman helped me realize that it is exactly what I need at this time.  So starting Monday for the next 8 weeks, I will be knee deep in school.  Sue is amazing at teaching better ways to utilize Instagram (my new favorite social media site!) for your business, for all my entrepreneur friends out there.  She has precise and easy to follow steps to grow a true genuine following on Instagram.  Check her out.  If you haven't already, be sure to find me on Instagram!

So where is my heart?  That is the question I keep asking myself.  I can do so many different things, from cooking, to crafting, to painting, to teaching...but what do I really want to do, what is going to make me happy.  Well that is what I am working on.  And I can't wait to announce it here first.  I do have a plan in my head to move from The Patriotic Pam onto a different site, and when that is ready, I promise you will hear it here first.  But for now, I just wanted to share where I will be and what I will be doing.  I hope to drop in here at least once a week throughout B-School to give you an update of how it is going and maybe share what I am working on at the time.

Please bear with me, as I learn more.  And get smarter to come back and offer you guys an excellent product.  In the meantime, I'd love for you to take a look at some of my current paintings I have been working on.  As I said earlier I love to create...and part of my heart is definitely into painting.

Hurray and get one before they are gone.  The first one on the top row is a little is a painting on pallet wood that is 24x12.  The photo doesn't even do it justice, the paints are so brilliant in person.  Do you have a favorite beach scene you'd love for it to be a painting?  Personal favorite vacation view?  Sunset view you love?  Send me a photo and I will commission a painting just for you.  Email me!

Everyday should feel as good as Welcome Home Days

military, sketch, illustration, inspiration
Absolutely!!!  If you are a military spouse, parent, child, totally know get the meaning behind this one.  I was reminiscing the other day as we crossed our 3 year anniversary of our last Welcome Home ceremony.  It's hard to believe it's been three years already.  Feels like yesterday.  But looking back through all the photos from that day on my Timehop (yes I look at that silly app everyday...who would have thought!), I got that warm fuzzy feeling all over again.

Some times in the rush of the day to day life, we forget what that meant to us and how we need to cherish every single moment.  I am a firm believer to make the most of where you are at that time no matter what.  So I challenge you today to find not just the good in your day, but the awesome in it.  Make today feel as good as your last Welcome Home Day, because you chose to!  Go make it happen!!!

I am excited to tell you that I have a BIG announcement coming next week.  I am SO excited about it, I can't even begin to sit still.  I want to blurt it out, but I know my curious followers would go investigating it and I just need a few more days to get it ready.  But I hope you will continue to follow along with me as I am changing and evolving into something more, something better, and something bigger!

If you are just joining in, be sure to check out more of my February Sketchbook drawings below!

Happy Friday everyone!!!

We have been a few times and it is an amazing experience.  I was inspired last night by the great photos that were captured of Joey in the winner's circle with the confetti raining down to create this sketch for today.

Just a fun sketch of Logano that my boys loved.  So I thought I would share it as a part of my month long sharing from my sketchbook.

Daytona 500 Sketch

sketch, drawing, doorleert
"Gentleman...Start Your Engines!"  Well today is the Daytona 500, biggest race of the year in Nascar.  My sons are excited and I was challenged by one of them that I couldn't sketch the Daytona I did.  Not bad for a quick Sunday morning sketch all done in pencil!

My month of sharing my art sketches on here is quickly coming to a close.  I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of the things I can draw or create.  I will continue to share on occasion, but if you would like to follow my daily art be sure to follow me on Instagram where I will continue to share art daily.  Some I've created, some from my favorite artists and even an occasional quote of the day.

I am working on rebranding and creating a new blog.  I will be debuting it in March.  Stick around for the big announcement!

I hope everyone is having an amazing Sunday!

Art Blocks - Hand Lettered

Sketchbook, hand lettered, doodle art, drawing
Today's art is just a fun Art Block of hand lettered words.  As I shared earlier this week, I have been taking a few hand lettering courses (see which ones HERE).  So my sketchbook practicing today is another hand lettered sketch.

Above is what it looks like in my sketchbook.  I brought it into Photoshop and cleaned it up a little.

5 Stages of a Military PCS Move

doodle art, drawing, sketching, military pcs,
Oh the joys of a Military move!  I sketch to relieve some stress so these sketches have been falling onto the pages of my sketchbook for weeks now.  For all my friends that are Military families, you will probably embrace these and find some truth to my cartoons.  For all my friends that are not military, I hope this will give you a small insight into what a military family goes through with each move.

Just like with the stages of grief, a PCS (permanent change of station = military move) has many stages for a military family.  These five sketches will probably only touch on the many stages you could think of as you go through a move.  But this is a start.  And just like with the stages of grief, I have found myself going through these stages more than once with every move.  During the times of a move, I have even found myself going through all five in one day.
doodle art, drawing, sketching, military pcs,
The first stage I always start with is denial.  Any military family waiting on orders from HR will tell you that until you know something in concrete, it's better to deny the move than to get too worked up over it.  For us, we have known for over a year that this year we would be up for a move, but not until a few weeks ago did we know where, when or anything really. So living in denial is a great way we have found to go on with the day to day life.  I must admit I am a planner and I love to plan, but sometimes it's so hard to plan on wishful thinking, or maybes, or possibilities.  So denial is a great place to be!
doodle art, drawing, sketching, military pcs,
The next stage may come right away for some, but it might not.  Anger may be over your "where" (like in the above cartoon) or your "when" or even later in the move over details you just can't make better or plan for.  But somewhere within a military move, I am guessing you will find a little bit of this stage.  Hopefully you channel that anger for the good, and don't dwell on it.  As I always tell my kids, it's OK to be angry, but it's what you do with that anger that matters!
doodle art, drawing, sketching, military pcs,
The next stage we always find ourselves going through no matter when you do, is the Acceptance stage.  Where you invest in your new location and begin to learn all about it.  Whether that is in house hunting, school shopping, or just finding out more about the new location, there is a ton to find out about and plan for.  For me, this stage will usually directly move me right into the next stage.
doodle art, drawing, sketching, military pcs,
I must admit, I find myself in this stage over and over again throughout a move.  Overwhelmed with the details of planning the actual move.  Overwhelmed in getting the kids all connected into school, medical, extra-activities, and even the simple things like finding new hair dressers, dog groomers, and etc.  Sometimes I even get overwhelmed just thinking about all the scaling down of household items before the movers come.  If you are like me, we are always right at the edge of our weight for movers, so we never want to move things that we really don't need.  And depending on how long we have been at the current location, will depend on how much scaling down is needed.  And like I said earlier this is definitely a stage you might find yourself in more than once.  It's OK, just slow down and take things one step at a time!
doodle art, drawing, sketching, military pcs,
Eventually, whether you are ready or not, it happens!  The move comes and you will do it.  You will embrace it and most will survive it.  There are so many details of a move, that there is few things better within a move for me than when we get to the point of the moving truck pulling away.  You know at that point, there is not much else you can do and your things are moving on to your new location.  If you are like me, you stop for a moment and say a little prayer that everything makes it there in one piece.  (And when it doesn't, that will move you right back to the anger and overwhelmed stages on the other end of that move!)  See these stages can be seen quite a few times throughout a move.  Some things will go so smoothly and other things will have one hiccup after another.  Just take a deep breathe and find a positive way to survive it.
doodle art, drawing, sketching, military pcs,
My hope for all my readers, is that you embrace each and every move.  Make the most of where you are and live life to the fullest.  We don't always get to move to where we would like to, but every location you are in is where God wants you.  Learn to embrace where you are and make memories.

So do you have a stage you go through during a PCS?  One not listed here?  Be sure to share with me, and give me more to sketch!

I hope you have enjoyed my sketches from my sketchbook today.  This group of sketches have taken me a few days to pull together.  But I definitely wanted to share them together.   If you love them, be sure to share on your social media too.  For quick sharing, find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and more.
